The slight chipping on the finish of the product is a natural consequence of the seasoning process during manufacturing. As the cookware travels through the seasoning tunnel on a conveyor belt, an electrostatic sprayer applies a natural vegetable oil seasoning to the pan. While passing through the seasoning ovens, the applied oil can sometimes accumulate into a small bubble at the lowest point of the pan. When this bubble is heated in the ovens, it can develop a baked-like surface that may occasionally flake off, revealing a brownish color beneath. This brownish hue is not rust but rather caramelized seasoning that has been baked onto the iron itself. This is an inherent aspect of the seasoning process and not a defect in the product.

The original Lodge Camp Dutch Oven is a versatile and well-traveled piece of cookware. Its flanged lid can hold hot coals and can also be flipped over for griddling, while the legs keep the oven at an optimal distance from the hot coals. This Dutch oven comes with a "Camp Dutch Oven Cooking 101" cookbook, providing a comprehensive guide to outdoor cooking.

Lodge offers pre-seasoned cookware without the use of synthetic chemicals, relying instead on soy-based vegetable oil. As the iron is used more, the seasoning will continue to improve, enhancing the cooking experience.

Lodge has been manufacturing cast iron cookware in South Pittsburg, Tennessee (population 3,300) since 1896, boasting over 120 years of experience. Their cast iron products are renowned for their high-quality design, lifetime durability, and exceptional cooking versatility.

Cooking is not just about the food itself, but also the memories it creates. Whether you're roasting a chicken in the oven or preparing chili over a campfire, Lodge's cookware and the included "Camp Dutch Oven Cooking 101" cookbook will help you capture those cherished moments.

Beyond being a successful business, Lodge is a family-owned company, founded in 1896 and still owned by the same family today. Their commitment to environmental responsibility and community development reflects their deep roots in America.
